thats right i sew and i like hockey. wanna throw down gloves about it?

ok ok. so proj runway this season has been a dud. i am behind a post for the latest ep i realize but it'll happen don't worry. Also i saw pics of the final 6 at Fashion Week..final 6 get to show at fashion week in attempt to keep the winner and final 3 a surprise, any who, saw the pics and no surprises, and still not really impressed by pretty much all but one designer. but that friends is for a later post.
the blog is kind of a clothes themed blog i suppose, it's not necessarily supposed to be strictly proj runway, so I'm gonna throw in some new stuff.

I like hockey.
I like the Sabres.
I like fashion , clothing, costumes, fashion history....

And recently they unveiled a new jersey so really this is a solid synthesis of things that make me happy. Believe it or not i can easily name a hand full of times that i can happily ramble on about where hockey meets fashy kind of things, ex, Ryan Miller, Fashion Show Benefits, Derek Roy's cribs episode (killer closet), Alyssa Milano representing for brunettes who like hockey and well fitted women's beanies, by doing what she can for women's fans sportswear ( stepping back from pastels, piped trims, and ill fitting baby tees, ), and the ridiculousness that are the stories of avery ( slight grimace, his job is to be a jerk, he's good at it and I am not going to pretend I'm not slightly jealous about the internship) at vogue.

back to the point. NEW JERSEY UNVEILED!!!! YAYYYYYYYY! and it looks awesome!. the "slug jersey" is really unappealing to me. the emblem bugs me, i mean if people refer to it as a slug how can that be good? the colors on the jersey are bright and eye catching but in a kinda cheesy overstated kinda way. but hey that's marketing. i get it.

but the one they just unveiled is my cuppa tea. it has the vintage kinda feel that i love love love. The colors are darker and deeper, eye catching but classy, dapper even. The 70's logo is so much more appealing and attractive to me. The stripes are awesome and give that old school letter jacket kinda feel which enforce the vintage thing again. it is vintage but not aged or drab. There are some shots of silver and the vertical design lines create an updated sporty look that add some 2008 to the look. even though it isn't much, and not loud look at me look at me marketing i like it. i prefer it over the latter. And the icing on this fashkey cupcake... (fashion+hockey...hocshion just sounds like a symptom of a cold).. where was i...oh yea the icing on this cupcake of casey happy thoughts.... the tie at the collar, it's old school, it's the perfect touch. it seals the deal.

Happy Pre Season Ladies and Gents this is casey leigh signing off.

same story different week

so this season in a nut shell, underwhelmed and the technical skill is not at the usual proj runway level. things more often than not are one of the following or a mix of the following. boring. poorly made, or a replicate of the exact same piece that they make over and over but in a different color. so they paired up with people who got booted earlier to make an avant garde, you know something... experimental... different... out there, outfit based on one their astrological signs....

Suede and Jerry created an i dream of jeannie outfit. the cape is ugly. it look cheesy and shabby, you know the usual.

Kenley and Wesley made the dame shape of dress that Kenley always makes but inflated. once again patterns that look like crap, and still unoriginal which kors called her out on it. in which she acted like a snotty little 5 year old and had a fit on panel, which did not help her at all. she is so confident in the same ridiculous pieces she throws together.

Terri and Keith got paired together which was funny because they despise each other. Terri was crazy controlling and did everything herself while Keith was pouty, pretty unproductive, and mostly indifferent, he slept basically through the whole thing. HA. terri had a leo so she chose red and gold and the piece even had a fur neck piece which she cut bc it was way to obvious, but not even that helped the outfit. the bodice is kinda interesting, but once again it looks like a basic rental from a big costume house., meh.

Leanne and Emily at least they thought outside of the box, this dress didn't yell out the obvious sign, there was something to analyze . it isn't super pretty but at least there was something to interpret, the dress had people talking about how the lines and shape made them feel, and what they got from it, instead of being cheesy and to the point. this was the most avant garde piece i think.

Korto and Kelly had aquarius, not very new or experimental, but its pretty and gives the feeling of water, it is well made to, which puts it at the head of the pack.

Joe and Daniel this one doesn't really pertain much to the avant garde ( although for average joe this is out there i guess compared to the rest of the pieces we have seen from him so far on the show) again but it isn't falling apart and i think it's kinda pretty...i definitely had a barbie with this dress circa 1989 same gold sleeves and shiny fabric for the skirt.

Jerell and Jennifer it did not turn out as badly as i thought it would at first glance at that drab plaid. the skirt reminds me of history of fashion project i did which places it in the late 1800's. I don't think the fabrics go well together color pattern or texture.

Blayne and Stella... oh Blayne i will miss your goofy antics and you were a good guy you brought some life to the show. but this is ridiculous, straps, a nude jump suit, and randomly squished fabric you wanted the whole uneven scale thing yeah, but couldn't it have been pretty or intricately instructed?

Now before they went to the runway they had a party with some of the designers from past episodes, it was funny to see them all together, the previous designers underwhelmed but still trying to give tips with out being like . what? really?! this is all you came up with? Christian had like 5 secs of airtime and stole the show as expected. This seasons designers hum drumness only stuck out out with all the previous designers around mingling.

why it's a big deal

this episode was kind of a big deal. Diane Von Furstenberg isn't just a big name, yes she is super successful, yeah she owns one of the biggest and most successful design studios commercially and in high fashion, yes she makes pretty pieces, and works different patterns and colors in ways no one else can and yes she is successful in the hundreds of other things she pursues home interiors, perfumes, cosmetics etc etc etc . But she is one of those living legends of fashion past. People have been and will be referencing her as a design great. She is from Brussels, married a prince and moved to NYC. In the seventies she came out with the knit wrap dress . Women of the past, present and future consider this a closet staple. They flatter all sizes and shapes, they can be dressed up, dressed down, and never go out of style. they are simple and flattering. Kind of a big deal. now the designers get to work for a legend which is awesome and get to pick their fabric out of her own supply, the colors, the quality, the patterns, i could live there these fabrics could cost more than a car hand spun, dyed from all over the world and only the best. and they were in such a rush to get the fabric they were being thrown on the floor, being pulled, thrown around, i was in a tizzy at them just chucking and trampling all of those fabrics. any way this was a big deal in about a hundred different ways.

-Casey

finally a wow or two

Casey- Leanne. this was the winning outfit. AND IT IS GORGEOUS. finally!!! it's beautiful, well made, great color, great contrast between pieces and fabrics, and still they work together. I love love love the color. The look is exactly what DVF (diane von furstenberg that's too much name to keep typing out) had asked for, vintage looking, layered, perfectly fits with the rest of her collection. i love it when they design gowns and dresses.

Casey- Stella lost this episode, i will miss her quirky little lines. and her bickering with blayne. but you could tell early in the episode that she was done and ready to go home. the pants did fit poorly, but i will give her this. she was really trying to try new things work outside of her comfort zone, and not just spit out leather jump suits. She is on her way home to cuddle up with ratbone on some kind of leather couch somewhere.

Casey- Speaking of poorly made pants, they were super hard on stella but look at the crotch of these pants terri made. just as bad if not worse. and terri is queen of the pants suits. i am still only coming up with ok as descriptive words for terri.

Casey- Suede...the top needs a lapel and i would have liked sleeve, with out the lapel specifically it looks kind of awkward to me. the vest thing and the dress seem a bit off together. the skirt of the dress has too much fabric gathered at the waist, which makes an awkward innertube of fabric at the waist, which the vest only makes more pronounced, and the shape of the skirt is not really appealing either it's just a tube of fabric. his explanation of the the choice of fabric bc it reminds him of camo....ehhh. DVF was looking for more james bond than GI Joe i think.

Casey- Blayne, i am impressed. You stepped outside your your box again, you really tried to take in the ideas and inspiration from DVF's collection and went with it. with that said, I'm not digging the pantaloons. But i really want that jacket! it fits her well, is well made and has a lot going on with it.There is deff still blayne in the design as well with the shot of color at the neck.

Casey- Jerell what with the odd hats...im not sure what is happening with the pieces of this. the blue belt seems out of place, there is a lot of jacket and it doesn't sit as well with me as leanne and blaynes. i cant tell whats happening under it. i dunno the ensemble doesn't seem to go well together. in general nothing sits right with me, on this one. i don't like any of the pieces, and they don't really go well together, which makes things more awkward.

Casey- Kenley. she chose to make one well made dress instead of floundering and making three half assed pieces. she knew what she could and couldn't do in the time given. and that was great for her. it fits really well, it's pretty and works with what DVF had described about her line. it was missing the layers that the rest of the line had, if she would have been able to make another piece a jacket a vest or what ev, she would have won. but she knew her limitations and made a great dress, which she stood by even when heidi bashed her about it. the other judges saw and understood why she made those choices and agreed with them, which kinda of put heidi in her place, as she sat there tight lipped and obviously steamed. i like the lace with the print, is simple, but but well constructed and fits the challenge. it didnt win without the layers which i agreed with the judges reasoning here. solid job kenley

Casey- Joe. Yikes. the fabric and colors are gaudy. the hems are all super crooked. she looks like a shanghai courtesan. the whole thing looks cheap, cheesy, and sleazy.

Casey- I missed the appeal that the judges saw in Kortos piece. i like the black and white fabric, if it looks familiar its bc its the same fabric DVF uses on a dress in that american express commercial that they play every commercial break. but i like that dress. this one not so much. i do not like the way the skirt drapes, its kinda blah looking. the jacket was a good idea, but i don't think it goes well with the dress, it;s the neckline of the jacket that doesn't work i think.

.

ratbones?!

So in this episode the designers were making outfits out of random bits and pieces of cars. There were some interesting bits and pieces, but i think the most important thing about this episode was the fact that Stella's boyfriend goes by the name ratbones. it is too perfect, and i did not and still do question the fact that they are perfect together. Ratbones. so good.

casey- Korto's swing jacket turned out well. I don't think she rally planned for the the seatbelts to drape that way when she wove the seatbelts together, but she got lucky and it worked for the coat. it is pretty and does not look cheap. I'm glad she took off the length of the sleeves so the silhouette doesn't eat the model.

Casey- Leannes dress won. the fabrics work well, i like the top alot and i like that she has used different fabrics through out her designs on the show. she always had some kind of structured shape to her pieces, i dont really like the horned hips look, i cant imagine this shape being flattering.

Casey- Suede's design is kinda interesting, i like the skirt no one else really uses this fabric. he played it semi safe, he knew that the silver could pull the outfit more toward bad Halloween costume and less fashiony. but i think the line of the skirt could have gone up more, the weight of the top is a little too overpowering, i think more shine would have been beneficial. i still do not like asymmetry.

Casey- Stella tried jumping out of her leather comfort zone with minimal complaining. I applaud her for doing so. i can see where she was going but the top and the bottom do look like they are from two different outfits, she needed to gel the two together more. personally, i wish the whole dress would have gone more towards the design aesthetics of the bottom portion it would be super classy outfit, and she could still keep some stella-esgue pieces, like a more form fitting top and the laced up parts

Casey- Terri's designs always are some kind of variation of a pantsuit. i don't really have much to say about her design. mostly just a shoulder shrug.

Casey- Blayne went against his neon instincts on this one, and once again i am happy to see some of the designers getting brave and trying new things! i like the idea of the loose belts of the skirt, the proportions could have been tweaked here and there. and the draping of the woven seatbelts didn't not work in his favor for the top, the shape created is definitely best used in a stiff wide silhouette like korto, the seatbelts are not form fitting when woven they are deff more boxy. the glass added some sparkle to break up the monotony champagne color, i think the mirrored pieces were too big. if the top was tailored to her, the skirt shortened, the size of glass could have been downsized as well and the whole outfit would have been a home run. but i liked where his head was at even if it didn't turn out, and the fact that he tried something new is what really makes me see the could have or should have been's of the dress in a positive light. there was a funny bit when Heidi had mentioned the bad luck for breaking the mirrors for the dress, and how she related back luck directly to not having sex for years. hahaha. oh Heidi.

casey- Jerell's dress is ok. i like the skirts, the seamlines have reasons to be there, they look like they belong there. the leather and the spandex work together to give it some interest, and it doesn't scream nightwalker, don't get me wrong it does, but its doesn't look as cheap as it could have. the top on the other hand is a different story, i feel like the shapes on the top were just plastered on last minute. the trim on the top of the bodice works, the random piece in the center realllly bugs me. if you wnat diff colors make it princess seamed and do full pieces of the bodice, this just seems last min and lazy. once again i get that they want to impress judges with diff shapes and stuff, but the pointy hip parts can not be flattering on people.

Casey- Keith, maybe it was how the edited the show maybe not, but you sir were the jerk of the season. you were mean, snappy, grouchy, and the stupid bandanna thing you ALWAYS wore was stupid. Now from the front of the the dress and from far away this looks ok. but as soon as you got close to the outfit it really was a hot mess, nothing was level, the slit in the hem one side was longer the seams weren't staying together, your model has to sit to get her hair and makeup done. so why would you think it was a good idea to put her in a crooked skirt that is following apart at the seams and tell her NOT to sit. why is it falling apart its a blouse and a simple skirt, it's a basic piece to construct. i can see making the choice to stick with simple with little time to work, but if you are going simple it needs to be really well constructed. the one thing that bugged the hell out of me the most was when he told his model to WATCH HER BREATHING when she was in the dress.?! really keith?! really?! there are somethings i thought were pretty basic in a n outfit in general let alone ones done by designers on proj runway, you know things like seams staying together, and being able to breath, maybe my priorities are out of whack. lets hope not.

Casey- Joe Schmoe.... oh man. well. it is not falling apart which is good. the lines of the colored parts aren't flattering i think they should follow the bodies shape, and it could have worked with the models body. the dress is kinda sack like, meh. and i am not digging the whole stomach or lower ribcage baring piece, not really sexy, just kinda awkward.

Casey- Kenley, the square toed witch shoes are back and i still don't like them. Kenley used some different piece from the cars which i gave her props for. the pieces all work together. as a whole it was ok, not bad, not great, ok.

but really how long are people going to last on just ok, this ocean of ok designs seem to be this entire season in a nut shell. normally ok gets kicked out in the first couple eps, but since everyone just seems to be ok people are hanging out much longer with these "ok" designs.

i don't think i said ok enough in that last mini rant.
